nestled behind the bubbling bustle of auckland’s k road is the we’ar retail lab. set among industrial office warehouses, the retail lab, once an old print factory, is now home to yoga lifestyle clothing brand we’ar. step inside the retail lab and there is an immediate feeling of something special; a place of calm and serenity. bright natural sunlight fills the space which is clean and minimalistic and a perfect showcase for the beautifully crafted we’ar garments.

the interior design of the we’ar retail lab is collaboration between french designer charles pelletier and we’ar founder and designer jyoti morningstar. together they wanted to create an environment which is both a retail store and a place for brand sharing and development.

in line with the we’ar philosophy of developing a functional model for holistic business that nourishes each being and earth process, the store has been designed as an experiment in modularity. everything from the suspended boxes, which neatly display the garments, to the electrical fittings has been created to be deconstructed or reconstructured. ensuring sustainability all fittings have been fashioned from re-purposed teak wood or indonesian antiques.

the retail lab mirrors an understanding of regularity, simplicity and craftsmanship in design. with a natural affiliation towards bali, (all we’ar garments are crafted and produced in bali), pelletier worked with the crème de la crème of bali's metal and wood artisans to craft the entrance gates, hanging racks and modular furniture.

working with the natural industrial vibe of this old print factory objects and hanging racks have been fitted to industrial scaffolding and steel cables. mannequins designed by sumatran painter and sculptor agustian have been specially crafted from disused vintage vespa components and farm equipment.
